Privacy Policy

The short version

There are no accounts on this site and nothing you do on the board is sent anywhere. Your games, your best scores and your settings stay in your own browser. What follows describes that in full, along with the one third-party service this site uses for audience measurement.

Information stored on your device

TowerOfHanoiOnline.com uses your browser's local storage — not cookies — to remember a small amount of information so the site is useful on your next visit:

• Your preferred number of disks, for each board.
• Your fewest moves for each disk count on each board, and on the random-start board a count of perfect games.
• Your daily-challenge result, time and streak.
• Whether the Controls list is open, and whether sound is on.
• Your light or dark theme preference.

This data never leaves your device. It is not transmitted to us, it is not linked to any identifier, and we cannot read it. Clearing your browser's site data for this domain erases all of it permanently.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, this site's hosting provider records standard server logs when a page is requested — IP address, browser type, referring page and timestamp. These are used to keep the site running and secure, and are not used to identify individual visitors.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are read, where visitors arrive from and how the site performs. When a page loads, it sets first-party cookies named _ga and_ga_<id> so a returning visit can be told apart from a new one, and sends Google the address of that page (including any puzzle settings in a link you followed), the referring page, your browser and device type, and an approximate location. Google Analytics does not store your IP address. We see this data only as totals and trends, and we do not combine it with anything else to identify you.

Google processes this data under its own terms; see how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can stop it on every site with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The embeddable board at /embed/ loads no analytics.

Advertising

This site shows no advertising and sets no advertising cookies. Google Analytics, described above, is the only third-party service it loads. If that changes, this policy will say so before the first ad is served.

Consent in the EEA, UK and Switzerland

This site does not currently show a consent notice: the Google Analytics cookies described above are set when a page loads. Until a consent notice is in place you can refuse them with the opt-out add-on linked above, by blocking cookies for this domain in your browser, or by using a private window — none of which restricts your access to any part of this site.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data held about you, and to object to its processing. Because this site holds no accounts and stores your game data only on your own device, there is generally nothing for us to retrieve or delete — but if you believe otherwise, write to us and we will respond.

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act you have the right to know what personal information is collected and to opt out of its sale. We do not sell personal information.

Children

This site is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this site, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new date at the top of the page. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the revised policy.
